How to Prepare Dhal Recipe in Indian Style

Ingredients
- Toor Dal (Kandi Pappu) - ½ Cup
- Red Chillies (Yendu mirapakayalu) - 5 nos
- Onion (Ullipaaya) - 1 Big
- Garlic (Vellulli remmalu) - 4 cloves
- Corriander Powder(Dhania Powder) - 1 tbsp
- Tamarind - one big marble size
- Tomato - 1 no.
- Turmeric Powder (Haldi) - Pinch
- Water - 2 cups
- Salt - to taste
- Oil - 3 Tbsp
For Seasoning
- Curry leaves (Karivepaku) - 5 to 6 leaves
- Mustard (Aavalu) - 1 tea spoon
- Broken urad dal (Dabba uddi pappu) - 1 tea spoon
- Cumin Seeds - 1 tea spoon
- Onion (Ullipaaya) - ½ sliced
- Corriander leaves (Kothimeera) - 1 tbsp (Chopped)
Instructions
- Clean all veggies and Dal with water and keep it aside.
- Cut ½ onion and full tomato into big pieces and the rest of onion into small pieces (For seasoning)
- Take a pressure cooker, put Oil and Dal.
- Fry Dal, till it turned into slight golden yellow color. Add red chillies and continue frying dal and chillies together till the dal turned into golden yellow color.
- Add onion(big pieces), garlic cloves, tomato, tamarind, coriander powder and turmeric powder, 1 tbsp oil and pour water.
- Close the lid and pressure it for 5-6 whistles (if it is cold climate/location). 3-4 whistles are enough in hot climate/location and switch off.
- Once pressure comes down, add salt and mash dal along with all the ingredients pressured together.
- Take a Pan or dish, add 2 Tbsps oil and heat. Once the oil gets heated, add mustard, urad dal, cumin seeds.
- During the splatter sound, add chopped onions and curry leaves and fry it.
- Once the onions turned into light brown color, pour mashed dal into this and heat it for 3 mins. Add coriander leaves before switching it off.
Notes
- Add salt when smashing the Dal. Don’t add salt to dal while pressure it. Salt avoids dal to be cooked properly.
- Add 1 tbsp oil while pressure Dal. Oil helps Dal to be cooked well, speed and tasty.
- Add Coriander leaves at the end before switching the stove off. It gives yummy smell to the dal.
- If you add ½ tbsp of sugar or 2 pea nuts size jaggery to the dal before adding the coriander, it gives yummy yummy taste to your dal.
